A word from the Executive Editor

of The Houston Literary Review

Red, White, and Blue Acrylic and Oil Paint Stick on Canvas 48”x24”
 by Gery Wyche
Welcome to the April 2008 Issue

THLR staff apologizes for the delay getting this issue uploaded. There continues to be consistent turnover in volunteer help and those of us who are responsible for viewing and formatting every item also have fulltime regular jobs and some of us are in post-graduate school.

I want to make our readers and contributors aware that there will not be a May issue. Because of scheduling issues, contributors accepted for May publication will move to the June issue. I am sorry for having to make this change, but without additional voluteers and funds, there is too much work at the moment.

In this issue, readers will find contributions from writers that live and work in southeast Texas as well as across the country and Europe. I want to thank our contributors for their wonderful work and their patience in getting this issue out. Certainly we are all better off for having viewed and read the artists who share with us.

THLR staff hope our readers are enjoying the video & music pages in the past couple of issue. I want to encourage any of you who have a view, please feel free to submit to visual arts editor Jeff Crouch.

For those of you perusing the fiction and poetry sections, you will find a variety of styles and stories that are meaningful and demonstrate the wealth of creativity available today.

As I mentioned earlier, THLR staff agreed to offer quarterly fiction and poetry contests with prize money and awards for first, second, and third place winners (please check contest web page for submission guidelines and deadlines).

We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we did bringing it to you. And remember, without your support, THLR cannot remain advertiser free nor offer artists of various stages in their pursuit a portal to the global arts community.

Best always,

Bill Brocato, executive editor, MBA
