2008 Short Fiction & Poetry Contest

The Houston Literary Review is sponsoring quarterly contests in short fiction and poetry. All work will be featured in a special section of THLR (based on space availability).
Based on response, a special hard copy issue is planned for distribution.
Deadlines for submission:
Spring Issue: March 15, 2008.
Summer Issue: May 15, 2008.
Fall Issue: August 15, 2008.
Winter Issue: October 15, 2008.
Short Fiction & Poetry:
Awards: First, Second, Third, and honorable mention. First place: $50 and certificate
Second place: $25 and certificate
Third place: $15 and certificate
Honorable Mention: certificate

Authors can submit one entry per category.
Fiction (any style) cannot exceed 1200 words and must be in MS Word format.
Poets should submit three poems (no rhyme) no longer than 30 lines (MS Word format).
Authors must provide a cover letter with their name, address, email and phone number. All other pages should not identify who the author is.
Submissions must be sent email to: publisher@thehoustonliteraryreview.com Entries must be accompanied with a $10 fee per category.
Payments may be made through THLR website's donate button (Paypal automatically provides details THLR. We will in turn notify contestants that we have received their funds.).
Personal checks made payable to The Houston Literary Review, must be mailed to 3000 Woodland Park Drive, Suite 2708, Houston, Texas, 77082.
All funds are budgeted to produce the special issue and promote and publish a hard copy edition as well as monthly online issues.
